The role of the family planning centres

The family planning centres are priviledged spaces for prevention, welcoming and accompaniment for any issue related to sexual and affective life. The centres are open to anybody, without any discrimination. Anybody wanting to confide him-herself in somebody will be welcome in the centre, he/she will be heard and helped without being judged. Everything he/she would say would remain confidential and his/her convictions and choices would be respected. The consulting price always takes the financial situation of the patient into account.

The multidisciplinnary team of the centre welcomes, informs and accompanies the visitor, who can consult either a physician, a psychologist, a social worker or a law expert. One of the main missions of the centre is to give an appropriate welcoming : the first encounter allows to clarify the needs of the visitor, give him some basic information and than define what kind of consultation might be useful for him. The more frequent demands are related to contraception, morning-after pill, pregnancy test, HIV/AIDS test and tests for other sexually transmitted deseases, sexual orientation and identity, family or relationship problems, sexual problems, family law, family mediation...

The abortion: the staff of all the centres has followed a training in order to deal with the demands for abortion and are able to welcome the patient and accompany him in the decision taking process. 21 Family planning centres affilliated to the FLCPF practice abortion and are members of the Action Group of the centres practising termination outside of hospital (GACEHPA in the French).

The family planning centres organize group activities related to affective and sexual education, particularly in schools, where they collaborate with teachers, school headships, the PMS (Psycho-Medico-Social) centres and the PSE services (garantees a medical checking for children). During the activity, the young poeple can speak of relationships, affective or sexual issues with a professional in a climate of trust and confidence.

Moreover, each centre develops activities, projects and associations in accordance with its public and location.
